Qualifications

Recognised qualifications/accreditations for joining the register:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Deaf Studies (Interpreting), Trinity College Dublin (NFQ Level 8)
  • Signature Level 6 NVQ Diploma in Sign Language Interpreting with Level 6 NVQ Certificate in Irish Sign Language (equivalent to NFQ Level 8)
  • Continuous Professional Development Certificate in Deaf Interpreting, Trinity College Dublin

The following qualification routes are no longer being offered by education providers or organisations. Applications who have the qualifications below should apply to the register before the end of 2022:

  • Diploma in ISL/English Interpreting, Trinity College Dublin (NFQ Level 7)
  • Diploma in Deaf Studies (ISL/English Interpreting), the University of Bristol (equivalent to NFQ Level 7)
  • Masters in Interpreting Studies from Queens University Belfast (with Irish Sign Language / English language pair ) (equivalent to NFQ Level 9)
  • Sign Language Interpreting Service / Irish Sign Link Accreditation processes (1997, 2000, 2006, 2009)
