Training for Interpreting Mentors

As the national Register of Irish Sign Language Interpreters (RISLI) is established, we believe a Mentor Programme will be a valuable addition to the current and future health and professional career development of Irish Sign Language (ISL) interpreters, working to support newly qualified and experienced interpreters in the profession.
The need for a formal mentorship programme is broadly recognised.  Mentor training is designed to prepare and develop appropriate skills for experienced interpreters to work as mentors to new interpreters, interpreters returning to work after a break and interpreters who wish to progress in their career.

Participants will have the opportunity to:

  • Learn about mentoring
  • Receive guidance and support from trainers on methods to use during the mentoring and practise these skills with others
  • Apply this knowledge and gain experience in working with mentees

CIB is offering up to 12 bursaries to registered interpreters with a minimum of seven years interpreting experience to qualify as professional interpreting mentors. The CIB bursary will cover 50% of the fees in advance and 50% will be paid to the applicant upon successful completion.

Please find below the training outline and the Mentoring Bursary Application Form.
